Hi Mike,
There's lots of varieties of Cedar and they all carve differently. Cedar is
a long grain wood that is soft and doesn't hold detail very well. Red
aromatic cedar carves about 5 on a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is the best.
White cedar is about a 3. A lot depends on that type it is and where it is
grown.
Many hardwood supply stores are mail order and will ship directly to you. I
use The Hardwood Connection (815-985-8733) for most of my carving wood. It
will cost almost nothing to call them and get a quote on some good wood.
