Cedar is more carveable if you can get quarter sawn or rift sawn. Clear
Vertical Grain (CVG) is best for carving. The NW Indian carvers call this
"Edge Grain". Western Red Cedar probably prevails in your area. I would try
to buddy up with a few park rangers. Hope this helps, have fun. Please
