[Woodcarver] varnish

I have been using marine spar varnish for my signs all summer because I could paint outside.  I am on oxygen and had to paint some signs inside yesterday and the odor just about did me under.  Is there anything out there that is non toxic and can be used indoors without destroying your lungs?
