My guess that the corroding contacts have more to do with brand of pens than anything else. Mike makes a bit of a point with the tip flying across the room, but as Jan said, the Colewood tip removal device seems to stop that.

The problem I have had is the contacts corrode and more heat is built up in the contact than in the tip.

The problem with the replaceable tips is that eventually you will break or wear out the contact area.
