I love this group. I have been reading and lurking for about a month and
have gotten some great ideas. I see many names I recognize from the
woodcarving magazines, books, and websites. I feel honored to read your
words and insights on carving.
As all new carvers, I have many questions. Most of them, I eventually
answer from trial and error (more error). My biggest problem is time and
the desire to keep buying wood and tools rather than improve my work with
practice. I have Adult ADD so I work best when I have several projects
going at the same time and switch often to the one I will work on next.
Jumping around from one carving to another seems to give me time to let a
design foment (I think that is the word) as I look at it while working on
another carving so that when I come back to it, I see things that I didn't
see before.
Looking at the carvings of others in this group, I am awed. Along time ago,
a Sunday School teacher told me that it is best not to envy the ablilities
of others but to set their accomplishments as goals for my own creations.
So I just wish to say that you have all set the bar very high. I hope to
rise to at least a modicum of success in bringing my visions to solid wood.
I just posted some photos of my carvings so far. Thanks for being here.
