[Woodcarver] pulley's help

Maricha,

Several ideas.

1. Drive a spike into top and bottom. Come up with something to hang
it from.
Use rope or chain hooked to the spikes thru a pulley. Lift one
end and tie it
off so that it's an inch or so above the horse. Same at other
end, turn log,
lower log. Repeat each time you want it turned. Be sure spike is
strong.

2. Get a slightly taller pair of horses. Might want to predrill a bit
to prevent splitting.
After driving spikes tilt one of the taller horses so it'll fit
under the end of the log
and support JUST the spike. Lift log, place horse, repeat at
other end. When
you're done each end should be resting on the spike instead of
the side of the log.
If the spike's are strong enough it should rest fairly securely
and yet allow the log to turn.
If the spike's aren't you did it wrong <g>.

3. Engine hoist ? They can be rented fairly inexpensively.

Subject: [Woodcarver] pulley's help

hi folks,

am in the process of sculpturing a tree. my problem is i no longer
have 4 strong men to help me move the tree as i work on it. am
looking for a simple pulley system to roll the log a bit at a time in
order to work on it in the round.. have got it secure on two building
horses. the size of the log is about 7 feet long and 60inches
circumference.
am thinking of using pulleys and a chain. any suggestions would be
most welcomed.
thank you
maricha
