[Woodcarver] basswood prices, fair or expensive???

Harry:
A 20 board-foot board of basswood for $120.00? That works out to
$6.00 per board foot. That's not too bad a price, considering that
here in Canada I would pay roughly the same.
The cost of the wood is always relevant anyway. If it costs $12 to
make a carving that is worth $240.00 then the cost of wood is a mere
5%. Or if the carving has 50 years of sentiments tied up in it, and
will instantly become a family heirloom, then the cost of the wood is
rather insignificant.
I had to settle this issue in my mind many years ago when the
hardwood I was using to carve had to be purchased and shipped from on
or two provinces away.
Hope this helps,
Bill
