[Woodcarver] aniline dye and monochromatic

Hi Jan. Analine dye is powdered, water-soluble dye. I brought home a little bit of concentrate (powder mixed with water) from a class with Jeff Phares a couple of years ago. One tablespoon of the concentrate in a half-cup of water makes the correct solution to apply. Jeff recommended it for real pale basswood and I found that it really does enrich the color and grain. I do not know the brand he had but the color used was "caramel". More info. on the dye can be found at:

Monochromatic simply means one color. Although it might be applied in different concentrations from very light to dark, only different shades of the same color are used when painting a piece rather than a number of different colors - like a black and white or sepia photo.
