Willows, in general, like low lying, wet areas. rule of thumb is: where the
mosquitoes are worst, there you will find willow! Good diamond willow can be
found along riverbanks and lakeshores, beside sloughs and farm dugouts, and
in bogs and swamps.

Checkout, the link above. I find the best way to locate wood being diamond
willow, Cottonwood bark basswood, and so on, is to walk the ground, most of
these type of trees or bush grow in the locations where most people never
go, in the swamp and wetlands. My kids use to call me "swamp thing " because
I spent so much time walking the swamps and bush.

Dave,

I have traveled the far extends of Alaska and diamond willow is found
through out the state. It is found along most streams where willow and
alders are the primary species. I have found it as far north as Fairbanks,
but not north of the Brooks Mountains or the Atigun Pass. The largest trick
to finding Diamond willow is to search far and wide. The Wooden Knot
souvenir shop south of Fairbanks sells raw sticks though the quality is
usually substandard. My suggestion is to pick a stream wear lots of
mosquito dope and have a fun outing.

I was wondering if anyone had experience about what areas in Alaska
Diamond Willow might be found?

I asked around Sitka when we were there on a mission trip, and was told it
was not found in that area.
