The home owner decided to do the rest of the mantle himself with me  just 
doing the facia(face) board.  He is going to stain the basswood dark  walnut to 
match the rest of the wood in his room.  I tried to talk him into  doing it in 
walnut but he insisted it be done in basswood.  They say the  customer is 
always right but I tried explaining to him that Basswood might not  take the stain 
evenly. I suggested Walnut, oak, poplar and even  pine. Like I said he 
insisted on Basswood.  Easier carving for me I  guess and as he will be finishing 
it, I'm off the hook for that and he has been  forewarned.
