[Woodcarver] Finishing Red Cedar

Good Morning George,

As I am in the heart of red cedar country, About 75 % of the things I make are from red cedar. Like you, I wanted to keep the beautiful aroma of the cedar and protect all the colors. The only thing I have found is a spray satin polyurethane made by Minwax. I have used this on all of my cedar, both red and yellow. Hang your ornaments and just give it a very light spray. Wait about 2 hours and give it one more very light coat. Then hang to air out. My jewelry boxes take a few weeks to a month or so to air out but after you can still detect a cedar odor. Hope this helps.....

Best Regards,

Steve

Hi All
I've been making Icicle Santa Xmas Tree ornaments out of
red cedar. They are about 1 inch in diameter and about 5 inches
long.
I would like to give them a clear finish but still preserve the
odor. I don't think that this is possible but I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance.
