I have the same opinion of Marples, Have about 6 of the standard mallet
tools. You can get them cheaply compared to the top notch swiss-made and the
like. Think I paid about 15 ea. again decent tool for the money But not my
first choice in tools. They can sharpen but seem to lose their edge quickly.
Very chunky steel. Maybe if they were reground to have better bevels and
thinner edges they would be better. I will try it one day. I have heard, also
that the older Marples were an exceptional tool, better steel and better tool
making technique I suppose.

Anyone looking for a good economically priced tool would do good to deal
with Ramelson. I have no complaints about their tools. Judi Tangerman, E J
Tangermans daughter(for those in the know) uses Ramelson and Harmen almost
exclusively.
