hey all,

Thank you for the warm welcome. Bing, I know the Gagetown area very well as my parents live not far from there on the Washademoak Lake. I spent many many years on that lake and on the St John River. we may have bumped into each other. I know live in a little fishing village by the name of Back Bay , About 45 min drive from Saint John And about 3 kms from the Deer Island Ferry.I started being interested in carving a couple years ago while watching a good friend of mine , Hugh Parks, carve his birds. I bought all the tools and did a few carvings and then my workshop burnt down so I lost all my tools and carvings. I am in the process of collecting the tools again and I am starting to get the carving fever quite bad. I have been collecting diamond willow for the past few weeks now and had a few sticks that are dry enough to carve a few spirit canes but now I need something bigger I guess. I have always loved caricatures that I have seen in the magazines that I subscribe to so I thought I might start with one of those. I will definately check out the Scandanavian Woodcarving book and see what I can find. It must be offered at one of the online carving suppliers. I will also check out the carvers campanion website. Thanks for all the great tips and again for the warm welcome.

Hi Darren, where in NB do you live? I lived in Gagetown area for 8 years and spent a lot of time on the rivers fishing for salmon.

Hi,
Just thought I would say hi to all of you. I am a very new carver from New Brunswick Canada and have been reading this mailing list for just over a week and have been getting great enjoyment out of it. I have been scouring the net for sites and have found quite a few very handy ones. Right now I have been carving mainly diamond willow sticks but I am itching to start a caricature as soon as possible. Any suggestions on what one I should tackle for my first one? Anyways as I said I just thought I would say hi so Hello.
