Doug:

I arranged for a photo session with a father-son pair of subjects.  
Using a digital camera (on tripod) I took about 60 pictures. After  
editing the images on my computer, I chose four pictures that were  
the best. These I had enlarged on a color photocopier. From these  
copies I traced a line drawing, incorporating the best features of  
each image.

The time invested in the preparation was well worth it.
