Thanks for your kind words, Vic.
Hi Kathy,
If you would like one of our print catalogues, please let me know. Even though
you had your complete address on one of your posts, I didn't want to take
advantage of that and send one without your permission.
Please let me or "My Boss" know if we can help.

Hi Kathy, and welcome to the list!
It sounds like you are starting with a small whittling project, the cross as a
necklace or pendant. That is a good way to start, small and simple, something
that you can finish easily and not get frustrated with!
For small carvings, I like the Warren brand carving knives. One handle, a few
interchangeable blades, and you can get started for not too much money. Some of
their handles are smaller and easier for small hands as
well. Your local Rockler store or Woodcraft store may be able to help
you out, or a guy named "Big Dog" on this list, along with his boss, Miss Carol,
run a carving store than has everything you could/would ever
want! Go here to see their online catalog:
http://www.thewoodcraftshop.com
Big Dog has been supplying carvers for 25+ years and they are great folks to do
business with. There are other suppliers on this list as well, and all are
pretty low key about advertising thier business.
nevertheless, they all are excellent carvers who can help you out!
For some fun instructions, patterns beyond your wildest imagination, helpful
tips, and a good way to spend about a day in front of your computer, try Lora
Irish's website here: http://www.carvingpatterns.com/
She and her husband Mike have wonderful starter projects, ideas, patterns and
advice for carvers. You can't go wrong with her stuff!
Lastly, try Matt Kelley's website! (Yea, I know, you wanted to carve, not spend
a week in front of the computer!!) here:
http://carverscompanion.com/
The On-line magazine is in it's 10th year of publication and offers a wealth of
information and ideas. More importantly, the resource files are a huge volume
of collected knowledge and websites to assist you any time of the day or night!
OK, I'll stop here and wish you happy carving! Again, welcome to the list!
Vic H
