Hi Bill.  I am not too good with remembering dates but I think I joined in 1997or 1998.  I remember being a lurker on the porch list which had a lot of off-topic chat at the time and saw info about this list that supposedly stuck to more carving topic dialog so I joined it and lurked.  One day I asked a question about boring a long hole to the list and from that a boring contest was dreamed up and by Joe D., with results at the first GPO.  My first carving efforts were due to joining a friendship cane group (boy it was hard to get that little segment out every month!) but attending the first GPO (I think in 1999) is what really got me started in carving.  Thanks to the list and all involved for the help and support over the years.
