Mats, I have used this method & it worked real well. Basically it's
sandpaper glued to a flat surface,
I used glass. I had different grit sizes on separate pieces of glass. I
could take a knife & go through the different grit sizes until I got the
sharpness that I wanted. After I got the sharpness that I wanted, I just
honed/stropped the knife to maintain the edge.
I got my sandpaper from an automotine supply store & it's sold as "Wet and
Dry Sandpaper". I also used it with a lubricant, mineral oil.
I had very very good luck with it on flat edges, but I could not get any
consistency with gouges.
