Hi Diane, You have asked a question that just about everyone has a
answer for. Here's what I have done in the pass for myself and for some
cases that I have made for other people.
Lay out the tools that you what to put in the case. This is the tools
that you are using right now on the carving you are doing.
Are there any tools that you have used in the past that you want in there?
Some you might need for your next carving?
Place them on the table in front of you and play with them, moving them
around to get a idea of the size of the case that you will need.

Now you can go two ways.
Go to second hand stores, goodwill, and the like. look for overnight
cases, briefcases, make up cases, or any boxes that look they might
work. Remember that if the handle is on the front the the case, when you
pick it up, the tools inside will shift.
OR
find a woodworker in your club or if you know of some one and between
the two of you, design a custom case just for you.

If are going to use the tools at home, make a holder for the palm gouges
so the you can take the whole holder out and set it on your bench. Small
fishing lure boxes will hold your knives secure and safe.
Make sure that you have 2 good latch's on the case, and if you will have
any kids around. put a lock on it.

I hope these will help you out somewhat and have fun making the case and
do some carving on the outside of it to show off.
