[Woodcarver] Master? Maybe...

Hey Ralph:
I am always a little uncomfortable with terms like "master carver"...
since I am an ordinary fellow like most of the people on this List.
One of my students from years ago paid a visit to carving class this
afternoon to see the projects other students were doing. She saw one
of my carvings on the wall and said something like "I wish I could do
that quality of work".
My comment to her was "You are as a good a carver as I am... the
difference is that I've carved 26 years longer than you have."
And that's the truth. Many of my carving students are progressing at
a rate of development that is several times faster than mine was...
because they are learning from and experienced carver. They will be
carving "as good as me" in a much shorter time. In fact, many of the
carvings that come out of student classes I'd be ever so proud to
hang on the walls of my house.
Am I a "Master"? Maybe... but so might you be also... except that I'm
maybe 15- 20 years ahead of you <grin>
Blessings and Peace,
Bill
