[Woodcarver] Signing your work

My mentor and teacher when I lived in Texas said of the signature on a 
carving.... "Why do carvers want to hide their signature when other artists, 
such as painters, put the signature right up front for everyone to see?" 
Generally when carving with him wee signed in a very visible place.
