Hi Joan,
I just came back from Montana and one of the treats we saw was The National Woodcarving Museum in Custer, SD. It was terrific. I asked about it on this list and most of the people who responded recommended it. It was well worth the stop. It is mostly the life work of one man, but there are other pieces exhibited. The man who started the museum was a Doctor or Dentist, and he did much caricature carving - many of them are animated, as well, and some were used by Disney animators to study when they were drawing. Many of them were very humorous and old cowboy scenes and hospital surgical scenes, dental scenes, and various others. Others were just beautiful. They also have a resident artist who teaches chasses there, but we were there on a Sunday and he wasn't available. They also have a great gift shop and gallery, where you can purchase either very expensive art reproductions or small touristy objects. My husband really enjoyed it, as well. If you get close, you should make it a point to stop.
Arkansas Fran

Hello!
We are about to hit the road on a month long trip from Springfield, Illinois to Flathead Lake Montana. Then to Yellowstone and finally to Gunnison, Colorado. In all those miles on the road I was wondering if anyone could suggest any carvng related sights that just can not be missed?
As always, Thank You for your help!!!
