Hi Gang:
I am new to the wood carvers list. And although I am new at carving I am
fairly well acquainted with woodworking in general. My shop is well equipped
with power tools such as the saw table, miter saw with home built
extensions, floor planer/jointer, drill press, routers, band saw and the
list goes on. I am also into the old hand tools and have dozens of planes,
saws, eggbeaters and this list also goes on.
I am a member of the OldTools List which has about a couple thousand
members. I learn a lot from the other members and sometimes I may have
something to offer. Even for you carvers I would highly recommend this list
to you. Yes . . . carving tools are often a topic of discussion. But this
list does have rules. Pretty good rules at that.
I had hopes I could learn some carving tips from the WoodCarver list. So far
not much. Most of the chatter is just that. "Hi Betty, how's the family".
Or, "It was a nice trip, hope you made it home Ok". These private
conversations should be avoided. Well, that's my opinion.
What I would like to see more of is which gouges or V tools were used and
why. Power carving . . . same thing, high speed steel bits or diamond bits.
You know, the practical every day things that is the heart of the craft. I
don't think I am missing the skills, but I am missing the experience and the
methods. Ok . . . you get the idea. Hope I didn't offend anyone.
Check it out. New members (Galoots) are always welcome.

Have a Blessed Day.
