Hi Chris,
Thank you for sharing your project with us. It is a wonderful project. Those areas, where you had trouble and split out the center, most likely was because you cut against the grain. Reversing the direction of your cut so your knife doesn't hook into the grain would help. Also a very sharp knife is critical to making clean cuts with no break out.
You are well on your way up that learning curve already. Keep up the good work. The most important thing is to enjoy the process.

Hi all,
I just wanted to say hi to everyone and wish them a very Merry Christmas. Here is my next project completed. Its a chip carving of a Christmas Ornament. I really want to thank Marty Leenhout for sending me this pattern it was alot of fun to do. Its not the best but I am still learning. You will see some areas that have mistakes and parts that I accidentally cut and should not have but I am on the low end of the Learning Curve...LOL I will send more pictures after I put the finish on it.
