candle oil.

I was talking with Mike Burton once and he was telling me about a place
in Mexico where they would carve you anything you wanted out of pine.
Then if you asked for something a little more detailed, they would carve
you something out of pine. Then if you were really persistent, they
would carve you something out of cherry. But before they carved it, they
would apply kerosene...which made it much easier to carve. I haven't
tried it myself, but I've thought about it. I carve mainly basswood
right now, and don't need it.
