Thanks Donna yes the branch is carved out of basswood and the needles are actually welding wire, learned how to make them in Wilfowl carving magazine.

  Some nice work there. My favorite is the Saw-whet owl. Do I understand correctly that you carved the branch out of basswood- or is it a basswood branch? Since basswood doesn't have needles I suspect the former- but it is hard to believe that it is carved. Great job.
