[Woodcarver] Manzanita root

Hello Everyone,

I have just come into the possession of a piece of Manzanita and am not quite sure what to do with it, if anything.  Is it carvable?  Does anyone have any experience dealing with it?  Any and all answers would be greatly appreciated.

And since this is such a diverse, multi-talented group of artists I have another question.  Does anyone know of a book that shows how to woodburn portraits/faces?  Again, any and all answers would be greatly appreciated.  Thank You!!!
