Hi Maura,
I have a copy of Monty Kennedy's "Checkering and Carving of Gunstocks" and if you haven't had a better offer to you personally, I would be glad to send you my copy. I think I bought it at the Half Price Book store in Madison, WI just because it was a carving book and I can't resist a carving book unless really badly done. Anyway, it has been on my shelf for about 6 years so chances I'd attack a stock of my husbands is pretty remote. I do admire your work and your vision and self directed confidence so you would get much more use out of it than my timid carving nature will allow so how bout I send it to you.
Caviat: I'd like to see the finished work when you are done. On your web...let me know to look and see it.
Maybe you have had a better offer...if not let me know where to send it and I will get it off to you in a day or two.

wow look at all the different topics going on on this list. I think Bill lit a fire under our butts. okay well, in keeping with the spirit of things, i am going to ask a question...............okay here goes..................
I recently ordered a gun stock (walnut) so that I could try carving one. I could wing it but figured it would be better to be guided by a book or video for my first practice one. okay now I have about a 15-20$ budget for this. does anyone have any suggestions, I know that there are different books out there. have you used any, what do you reccomend. does anyone have a copy they'd like to sell (or trade) me? I would kinda like one that covers most of the basics from checkering to scroll work to custom scenes. Any Ideas for me? thanks
any general tips on carving gunstocks will also be appreciated
