Does anyone have a pattern for a gunstock? There was an article in one of the carving issues that had a wall unit with a couple of shot guns and Pheasant etc.and I think it had a pattern for a gunstock, does anyone recall that ?I've looked through my copies and haven't found it.

My plan is to carve it and make a cribbage board out of it,with brass feet.

Hello and Good Morning...

To help Merrilee and some others, I specialize in scrimshaw, gunstock
carving and I am also a gunsmith. What you need to do is get a replacement
stock to fit a particular rifle. If you are interested, I can get you info
on a couple of places for these. There are other factors that you have to
figure such as proper fitting of the barrel and receiver to the stock. Once
those are achieved you can work out a checkering pattern. As someone
suggested earlier, one great book for reference is "Checkering and Carving
of Gunstocks" by Monte Kennedy. As for checkering tools go to
http://www.brownells.com . Once you get the pattern for your checkering
design figured you'll have to get your master lines fit in and from there
you just checker away. :)
Another good book for gunstock carving using the high speed tool is
"Gunstock Carving" by Bill Janney. You can get this book from Amazon or
Bill Janney at
http://www.billjanney.com . Another place is Profitable Hobbies and their
site is https://www.profitablehobbiesstore.com .
Hope this helps....

Best Regards,

Steve
