Dan,
Just as a suggestion; Make up a bunch of little simple carvings you dash off quickly.
Then, once you've got them experiment with the various techniques suggested until you
find the one for you. It won't HURT when one gets ruined cause you won't have too much
invested but the wood will have been carved so you'll see the different effects.

I would like to thank everyone who helped me with your input on the painting thread. I am definately going to try my hand at painting again with the helpful tips you all gave me. Hopefully I'll be able to master it. Practice makes perfect they say. Also, a big thank you to Bill for this List. I glean a lot of helpful hints from it. I am pretty much a lurker on the list but maybe I'll be able to post a few pics when I think I'm getting the hang of the painting thing. Thanks again! Dan Myers
