Gentle Subscribers:
After much thought and research, I've decided to expand the
environment of our Woodcarver List community to include a free online
photo gallery. This gallery will give our subscribers opportunity to
share photos of their best carvings with other carvers on the List,
as well as with family and friends outside the List community.
I've chosen http://smugmug.com/ as the host site for this gallery.
Smugmug is in the business of offering pay-for web space for
individuals and organizations that want to share photos. It is a
FAMILY site, and, BTW, also family owned, with a great reputation as
being solid, well organized and progressive.
I've begun with a basic account for our carving gallery, but can
purchase more gallery space if we outgrow our current site. I'm
guessing that we have enough space for about a year of photos.
This is the way it is structured: there is ONE site containing nine
(9) galleries under the following headings...
1. Member Portraits - for pictures of List subscribers who have
contributed photos of their carvings
2. Relief carving
3. Caricature carving
4. Canes
5. Aquatic carving
6. In-the-round carving
7. Chip carving
8. Wild Fowl carving
9. Christmas/Santa carving
This is how you get your photos into this gallery:
1. Take digital images of your BEST carvings (or digitize print
photos of your carvings)
2. Keep the photos between 300KB and 2MB in file size. I will do the
cropping and file-sizing of the photos for the galleries. Photos in
the galleries will be under 300KB each.
3. Send your photos to me attached to an email message to my PRIVATE
email address: bjudt at sasktel.net
4. I will post your photos on your behalf.
Rules:
1. This is a family site, so the photos must be acceptable in a
family environment. I will make the decision on acceptable content.
2. Take clear, well-lit photos. Fuzzy/dark/blurry images will be
rejected.
3. Do NOT use your camera's flash - use natural light for all photos,
or set up your artificial lighting carefully.
4. Be sure to provide a caption for each photo: Wood, dimensions,
finish, title, etc. Also, include your name.
5. The List owner (Bill Judt) will make the decision which photos
will be added to the gallery, and how many from each carver. Common
sense will be the guiding principle.
6. Photos will remain in the galleries indefinitely... unless this
later proves burdensome.
7. Optional: Include a photo of the carver (that's you!) for the
members gallery.
I look forward to the discussion of this new gallery offering.
PLEASE, if you have questions, ask them on the List so everyone can
benefit from the reply.
Blessings and peace,
Bill
