Hey Chuck, Maura here, perhaps one day we can do lunch. sorry to hear of
your job problems but glad that you found another. Only a terrible commute
for you. I dont travel to different cities much but I do go to atlantic city a
few times a year. My friend is a big gambler so we usually get a comp room.
If we are staying for a while I do like to bring carving stuff with me. I
have found that as long as you clean up before you go, that it really isnt a
problem. I usually lay out a bunch of newspapers on the floor and sit a
chair in the middle(I suppose you could pack an old sheet or a plastic painting
tarp). I have gone so far as to clear off a night table and put it on the
newspapers as a workbench. I take the shade off a lamp if the lights not so
good. I will either whittle something hand held or work on a relief. I use a
homemade bench hook to hold my relief. I put a towel on the night table and
then the bench hook so as not to scratch the furniture. I usually keep the do
not disturb sign on the door the whole time I am there, so that no one walks
into a mess. before I leave I put everything back the way it was and roll the
newspapers up and take them to the hallway trash. no one is the wiser. I
have even used 2 chairs, on to sit, one to work on. You can also do power
dremel carving, just make sure a decent sized area is covered with the papers,
the dust doesn't go too far and the dremel is fairly quiet. I have also used
a quicky clamp to hold a carving to a table. It seems that in carving, where
theres a will, theres a way.
