I am new to the list and this is my first post. I am
also relatively new to serious woodcarving. I did a little bit
back in 8th grade (I am now 50 yrs young).
I've been doing some reading on Chip Carving. My
question is about the difference in the "Stab Knife" & the "Skew
Knife". I've been comparing the two & I can see little if any
difference between them. Can you help me with this?

Serious woodcarving???? Well some of us are serious and
others.....well.....lets just say you will have your hands full dealing with us all. anyway
welcome. I have tried my hand at chip carving though others are much more
knowledgeable. The tool requirement for chip carving is easy. to be able to
master it you will need both the stab and the skew. If money is an issue, start
with a decent stab knife and acquire the skew when you can. Contact either
Dennis Moor (Canada) _http://www.chippingaway.com/About.htm_
(http://www.chippingaway.com/About.htm) or Wayne Barton _http://www.chipcarving.com/_
(http://www.chipcarving.com/) . They are the best in chip carving and you cannot
go wrong buying tools and other chip carving essentials from either one.
Check out both of their web sites for lots of info and patterns and such. Best
way to learn is to take a class, next best is to get a video by either guy.
have fun and feel free to ask a billion questions.
