To answer your question I'm in Canmore Alberta. In the middle of the Rocky mountains with the world famous (for fishing) Bow River running through town. 

After Jan & others had suggested the wood burning pen I found a cheap on the Lee Valley site. It looks a lot like a soldering iron, so I put the small tip in my cordless soldering iron & signed the wooden bench at work.
