Hi Ann,

Get a book on drawing portraits. It will teach you facial
proportions. The most common mistake inexperienced artists make is
to position the eyes too high. Imagine the head as an egg with the
wider portion at the top. Draw a line horizontally right in the
middle. That is where the centerline of the eyes should be. It
seems like the eyes should be more to the top because they are closer
to the top of the face but when you include the scalp area they are
actually in the middle.
