[Woodcarver] New member and a query

I have the book here, Chip Carving: Design and Pattern Sourcebook, by Wayne Barton. ISBN:0-8069-4403-X, Sterling Publishing, 2002. Page 102 has the pattern and a finished piece, but there are no instructions. I'll bet if you looked around online you could find a pattern/example of basket weave that would suffice.
I also own The Art of Chip Carving, by Barton, but it just has examples of great chip carving by lots of different artists, no patterns, and no basket weave.
I checked Pam Gresham's book on chip carving too- no joy.
Wayne Barton has another book, his first, on general chip carving, and it may well have something in there on the 'how to'. I don't own that one.
Years ago (10) I started a box that was to be carved with basket weave all over. I didn't do it right- and it still has not gotten finished. It is a little tricky.
A lot of the stuff online refers to gunstock carving, and I'm not sure that is what we need for our usual projects.

That would be great.  I've contacted a few who are selling the book to ask if the pattern was there.  No replies.  As a Scot I too careful to buy the book on the off chance.

Hi John and welcome to the forum.

You asked about the chip carved basket weave pattern. I'm not sure if it's what you're referring to but I'm familiar with the caning pattern that looks like a caned chair seat. 

This pattern is in Chip Carving Design and Pattern Sourcebook, Wayne Barton on p.102.

I'll send you a scan of the pattern to your personal email if you'd like. That way you'd be sure it was what you were looking for.

 Evening,

                  I'm new to the group and a newbie to carving, started a year ago.

 

    So my contributions will mostly in the form of questions.

 

  By choice I live in the country of my origins, Scotland.

One disadvantage here is there is little interest in wood carving.   Various reasons for this but it  means I carve on my own.  However the web has given me access to a pool of knowledge that would not be available to anyone locally, where ever they lived.

 

  I enjoy caricature carving but have managed to give chip carving a go.

 

 I came across a picture of a chip carving and contacted the carver.  The pattern is basket weave.

Although I've a few books and patterns I do n't have this.  It may be that its in Wanyne Barton's first book which I'd buy if I knew for certain that it was there.

Can any member help me with this?
