John,
I enjoy questions to which I know the answer. Makes me feel omniscient. I like big words, too.
I use different templates for making circles and ovals, straight-edges, triangles, and french curves. I was a draftsman and like the feel of these tools in my hands.
For something like this basket weave, and my Celtic knots, figuring it all out and making it pretty is half the fun. Then, of course, I use a copy and transfer tool to put the design where I want it.

You said what I failed to make clear a pyramid upside down. I'll take heed of the need for clear lay out.
Tell me on that subject do you use a layout template.
I know the results of inaccuracy at this stage - in fact I'm good at making a mess of it. To be fair my eyes like othr parts are not what they were.
On a positive note I've finished my Xmas carvings - painted the last two Santas yesterday and today.
The subject of carving clubs I'd did a search earlier in the year and nothing came up for this area. With petrol- gas- at $2 a liter - and an old BMW travel is limited.
However as long as people , like yourself are willing to put up with my questions I'm doing all right.
Rgds
John
