Hi Doug, I've done a few pieces of the Northwest Coast Indian style. They can bee seen at: http://www.PictureTrail.com/razaxnstuff. Fox Chapel has some decent books on the subject. Western Red Cedar and Yellow Cedar are more commonly used than Alder. Generally you can use whatever is available unless it is for a specific purpose. Basswood works well. Have fun, Ray Mighells

Hello Group,

I see a lot of the Haida masks are made with Alder wood I would really like to try one of these and could use some help getting started. Is their a website with designs.and wood types used etc..Thanks Doug Neely
