Look at this website:

They have two excellent books available to help you. Vol 1 is "Learning
by Designing" and covers 4 major types of Northwest coast Native
American Art. This has heavy ephasis on the ovid shape that is used to
make this artform so intricate and identifiable. I bought this book a
while ago and was facinated while reading it. I highly recommend it!
