Merrilee,
Oil pastels are very different than dry pastels. They are oily sticks with an oil binder so the pastel colors do not fall off the paper. They can smear though.

Thanks Donna and Jack for your information. Bill has used the pastels on in the round but he did say it comes off if he doesnt' seal it quick. And I am taking the info about Pro-tecta-cote to school to see if we have any. The kids are getting a "real" artist to come in and show them how to use oil pastels this year! So it would be a good idea to have that I would imagine! I am so excited to see how to use it properly! :)

After you have sprayed allow it to dry then do your work and spray again with a matt special or you can get it in a luster too. The name of the product is
PRO-TECTA-COTE It is made by Mc Donald Photo Products,INC. The light blue and gold sounds like it will be very attractive on your harp. If you are going to do any retouching on Photography with Paints, dyes, airbrush etc. you will not want to be with out it. Good luck no matter what Procedure you decide to use. By the way I enjoyed looking at your web page on making your Harp, I enjoyed it very much. thank you for sharing. Jack

P.S. Pastels are usually used on a good quality of paper with a tooth to it and sprayed with a fixative. They are then Matted and framed under glass and seal your frame good to keep the dust out your Pastel Painting will last for ages.
