[Woodcarver] tools for the Carving Cruise

Hi Mark,

I have no idea how security will be. We're told that security will allow 7" long tools or less to remain under our control and everything over 7-inches will be controlled by security. My guess is that if this is true they will not allow us to take any tools off the ship that are controlled by security.

I haven't been aboard for a few years but my experience, after 9-11, was that security controlled all the tools regardless of length. Carnival Cruise lines were the only cruise lines that would allow me to take tools aboard after 9-11. Holland is now owned by Carnival. When I did my Carving Cruises Security took the tools off the ship and up to the customs agent. They were waiting for me to take through customs.

The cruise lines sets up the minimum requirements for security but if the captain wishes to tighten those rules that is his option. Wouldn't surprise me if the captain wanted all tools, regardless of length, controlled by security.

Speaking of tools I need you to call me, when you get some time, so I can purchase a set of Flex Cut with removable handles. These are perfect for the cruise because they under 7-inches (when removed from the handle) and made in the USA so customs will not need proof that we are not importing the tools and do not have to pay duty on them.

Another good idea is to tell the ticket agent that you are checking sharp carving tools in your luggage. I also purchase a thousand dollars of extra insurance on the case that the tools are in. This insurance is based upon availability at the time of the seminar and not if they show up a month later. The insurance is also upon safe return.

Joe,

Do we have some security issues to deal with on board? If so is it possible to get some tools on the ship that we would be able to take ashore at one of our stops? If I understand it right our tools will only be available during classes and maybe events? We many have to work this out with security.
