Wyndy,

I paint the painted areas and then finish the natural areas with 
Preservawood.  I then tell the customer to re-coat the natural areas 
of the carving every two years being careful to avoid the painted 
areas.  Some of the Preservawood will undoubtedly get on the paint so 
I tell them to take a rag dipped in thinner and wipe it off.

How would you finish an outdoor carving made of cedar that only has certain
portions painted, with the rest left natural?
