Hey - I don't post here very often but saw Maura's and Merilee's posts and thought I'd pipe up.
I've spent much of my summer in the WCI Forum where I've been asked to help as a moderator. (Heh heh - I guess they don't realize that I just talk a great game and carve very little. <grin>) Went to NEWR with my daughter Celine and had a fab time. We did bark houses, bark woodspirits, and started chip carved canes/walking sticks. I'm with Maura - don't think I have the patience for chip carving. I'll give it another go at some point though. Been carving up some of those 5 min wizards from the Summer WCI issue. They're a blast. Also picked up Park Gargac's Christmas Elf DVD and I'm champing at the bit to do one. BUT - I am also champing at the bit to do a greenman relief. So many projects and so little time. <sigh> Plus - I still have to complete my bark spirit and house from NEWR. Ugh!!!
I also got the change to take a trip to Bethlehem PA to visit Mark Yundt (active carver up on the WCI board who does some amazing work for churches and high end architectural carvings). VERY inspiring. Look him up on Google and check out his site and his carving.

"The only thing I've gotten done this summer was a relief of my son's house during Elain and Fred Stenmans's class in Evart and then when Mom was in the hospital for 13 days I carved 15 pins and finished up 4 that had been started. Doesn't seem like a lot when I look at them but it sure did keep me busy while sitting and watching her sleep!"
Hey Merilee - hope your mom is doing a lot better. We all missed you at NEWR. Hopefully we'll see you there next year.
Well - I guess that's it for me. I spend most of my online time up on the WCI site, but I lurk out here on many other lists so maybe we'll cross paths elsewhere.
Cheers
