[Woodcarver] Correction... Stations of the Cross link...

Good job on the stations, Bill. As you know I've carved many through the years, and, as we've discussed before, done some research. Some churches like to have a 15th station, but others feel the "15th station" is represented by the service itself. We've also discussed thematic variations, including the more recent "scriptural" version, as opposed to the "traditional" version you chose to do. It's a very interesting tradition, starting, I think, with St. Francis of Assisi.

Through the years one suggestion for funding that we've made and which has been met with enthusiasm is to have families in the parish "adopt" a station. That works particularly well for commissioned works where families can follow the progress of "their" station on the carver's website.

Hi Bill,

Very nice job. One thing that might be helpful is if you give the size of the Stations, including thickness, and the mounting method. Although not necessary but additional information could include the type of wood and finish.

Many Catholic churches are using a 15th Station, the Resurrection. Perhaps a note saying that you would be willing to carve the Resurrection as the 15th Station if needed.

Everything else looks great.

Our area (60 miles west of Chicago) was recognized as one of the fasting growing areas in the U.S. about 15 years ago. Population growth has slowed over the last 10 years. Our plans on building a new public school have been put on hold. The sub-divisions that were planned were also put on hold long before the mortgage crises, which will even slow things down more. There are no new building starts and there are a whole bunch of For Sale signes. Ten years ago we talked about building a new Catholic church but decided to remodel and put the new building plans on hold. It might be another 10 years before we have to build.

I am working on large carvings for an altar and pulpit for a new Catholic church that just broke ground on November 9th. When I inquired about the Stations for the church they thought that they would use the Stations from the old church.

To help direct your marketing strategy maybe it would be helpful to direct it toward memorials from individuals? I found that most times items for Churches are given from private parties as memorials. Most churches seems to be getting along fine with an older item, such as the Stations Of The Cross, and until some parishioner comes forward to donate a new Stations Of The Cross no thought is given to replacing them. Also, I believe that every Catholic diocese has a Designer Of Sacred Space who needs to review all plans for any major remodeling or new church construction to make sure all church law is followed and offer any suggestions that might be helpful. Ours that came from the Rockford Diocese was an older priest who reviewed our plans, offered suggestions and reported his approval back to the bishop. I don't normally work with them except on our church. They don't normally select the individual artworks but maybe they could be another marketing outlet?

Even though we rotate pastors ever 7 to 10 years, the personal preference of the pastor has a lot to do with the selection of art. My original idea for this large Last Supper, that I'm working on for the altar, got changed when reviewed by the pastor. He did not want to have images of non-saints or non-biblical figures.

I hope this was helpful. I wish you a wonderful sale. Your Stations deserve to be used.
