Good thread Joe!

2008 was a bad year for many but a great year for me! I discovered carving
last February. I don't think I have enjoyed as any hobby I have enjoyed
carving. I started out with a couple knives and now have a chest full of
tools thanks to Larry :-) Lots of carving books. It didn't take me long to
discover that carving is a blood sport :-) Even earned a purple carving
heart from my friend Will Hayden. But I got my head together and take the
needed precautions now and have been cut free for 2 months :-) Speaking of
carving friends I have met so many this year. from folks on line to the fine
people at my carving club. Mid America Wood Carvers in Omaha. So many
people have helped me out and woodcarvers are just that way. It's a fine
hobby and I am glad to be associated with it. A special thanks to all of
you on this list for your encouragement as well.

In 2009 I just want to continue to carve and continue to improve. Practice,
practice and more practice. Good luck to everyone with their carving this
year. I plan to do my first show in October of this year as well.

Hi fellow carvers,

What are your woodcarving related New Year's resolutions?

Last year I closed the business, resolving to work less and have more fun.
That worked out so well I'm making the same resolution again. I'm still
carving. I'm currently working on some large church carvings but at a much
slower pace. They just broke ground in November and won't be ready for them
for awhile.

I plan to continue teaching disabled veterans here in my shop and at Camp
Pendleton.

We're also making new plans. My wife and I are putting together a small
woodcarving museum that we hope to have open around September 2009.

We're also organizing GOW 2009 (Gathering Of Woodcarvers) for the week of
September 28, 2009.

What are your plans, goals, dreams for the new year?
