Here is some more information on the type of woodcarving gatherings like
roundups.
I was very impressed with Sandy Holder's Evart Roundup. I have gone to teach
at that one over the last 5 years.
I began the GOW (Gathering Of Woodcarvers) at my shop and designed it
somewhat like the Evart Roundup. The Evart Roundup now has over 500 carvers
and my GOW is about 125 carvers. We run the same type of seminars (about 50
over 4 days) using many of the same instructors that are at Evart. We hold
the cost low.
This next GOW 2008 we had to move to the Sandwich Fair grounds just 2 miles
from my shop. We ran out of room for parking, camping and classroom space.
We are just 60 miles west of Chicago. Here is the web site
http://www.camperjohn.com/GOW08_main.html . The GOW hosts are: Sandie Roosa
(Camping and Registration), Bob Mau (Seminars, Instructors and Publicity),
Gene Westerberg and myself (Facilities and activities), and my wife Sharon
(Food). Everyone is invited. It is the week of September 15, 2008. Go to the
web site to see what it's all about.
Another gathering of woodcarvers is the Whillock's Carv-Fest in Faribault
MN. They also run a bunch of seminars but add the attraction of joining it
with a carving show. Carv-Fest is August 9th and 10th, 2008.
Big Dog has the daddy of them all at the Congress in Iowa the end of June.
He puts together a World Class show with an extensive list of seminars.
I guess us woodcarvers like to get together and have fun.

Tim,
The one in PA is at Cherry Ridge Campgrounds near Honesdale, Pa. Honesdale
is about 15min East of Scranton/Wilks-Barre. It was inspired by the
Michigan roundup organized by Sandy Holder (who plays a "killer" hammer
dulcimer). Lesseee if I can wind the web site.

The second link needs to be updated for 2008, but it'll give you and idea of
what the gathering is all about. Hope that helps.
Keep on Carvin'

Dennis, there are three different woodcarving roundups in the eastern half
of the US if you are interested in this type of program. These are set up
for all levels of carving and for students from beginners to experts. These
programs are in Florida (March), Michigan (June) and Pennsylvania (July). I
will be aqn instructor for each one of these programs along with an
incredible number of other talented teachers who teach for little or no
remuneration. There may be other programs, too, about which I am unaware
that offer similar opportunities. OPlease write back if you would like more
information about any of these.
