I attended our monthly carving club meeting last night.  The report on the cane project was very positive.  We have given out 43 canes so far.  The local wood turners have joined in the effort and are making shafts.  The turners brought about a dozen shafts to meeting.  All I can is WOW.  Far more creative than I could have imagined.  There's going to be some very happy vets.

I'd also like to explain how our program works. The canes are hand delivered by several of the carver to Ft. Lewis near Seattle.  We know ahead of time how many people are to get canes, several more are brought to Ft. Lewis.  They're spread out on tables for all to view.  The recipients then choose their cane.  After presentations, coffee and conversation with the vets.  

Another trip is planned for late March.  

We work this all through the Fort Chaplin.
