[Woodcarver] new bandsaw

Thanks for the plug, Oregoncarver, but though it is a good book for making boxes it does not address the question of making blanks. I have touched on the subject in some of the articles in Carving Magazine. The first issue on making butterflies had how to make multiples of small pieces and how to keep your fingers out of the way. The latest article this past summer, the chipmunk had some details about lining up the front and side views.
To make multiples of thin pieces like butterfly wings just stick the thin pieces of wood together with double-sided tape. To keep your fingers safer, cut along one side of multiple wings/bodies, then cut the other sides, and finally cut them apart. That keeps a longer piece for a longer time.
For cutting 3-D pieces like the chipmunk you have to keep the same reference points from the front to the side. I draw parallel lines across the block where there are distinguishing features, like the nose, eyes, hands, etc. Carry those points to the corner and around to the side. Make sure the side views line up where they need to be.
Hope this makes sense.
I use that same tape to restick the scrap pieces onto the blank after one dimension has been cut out. Check to make sure that you have a stable base, and then you can cut out the second dimension.
Et Voila! ?Your blank is cut out and you still have all your fingers.
Did I miss anything important? Have any more questions?

Kind dripplers
I have
purchased a 14" grizzly band saw and gone thru all of the set ups
and
it appears to be a great machine.
My Question:
Is there a good
book or dvd out there on pattern transfer and pattern
cutting, or is it
learn as you go?
