Last year my wife and I took a 52 day freighter voyage from LA to Australia,
New Zealand, Hawaii, Vancouver and back to LA. With that long a trip, space
was at a premium. Even though it is probably not politically correct, I took
a couple of X-Acto handles and a bunch of various blades which I discarded
when they got dull (inexpensive tools) plus a Carvin' Jack (expensive tool).
The tools all fit in my carving glove along with a thumb guard, and small
wooden Flexcut stropper. I managed to complete two or three love spoons (from
blanks), several balls-in-cages, and an eight pointed star. Not fancy, but it
kept me entertained, there not being much else to do except read on a frei
ghter.
