I want to propose a situation for discussion regarding derivatives.
If I were to use a copyrighted photo of an animal as a reference how
does that factor in. The setting and design of the carving is mine.
The animal obviously was not designed by the photographer but the
angle and framing of the shot was created by the photographer. Would
that be considered a derivative subject to copyright? What if I were
to use the angle of the head but change the position of the body?
I'm curious what your moral and ethical opinions are on the subject.

Be sure to look at the incredible nature inspired art jewelry hand
fabricated by my wife, Karen Olsen Ramsey. It's worth the time to
take a look!
