[Woodcarver] To lathe or not to lathe.... that is the question

Hi Floyd
    If you have long hair, keep it under a hat.  DO NOT wear a tie and
keep your sleeves rolled up to the elbow.
    The lathe is generally a fairly safe machine to run but it will
grab anything flexible and loose and wrap it around the spindle being
turned ! ! !
    Start at slow speed initially until the work piece is round.  Then
increase the speed.  Keep your gouges sharp the same way you keep your
carving gouges sharp.  Keep the tool rest close to the work or the tool
will grab.
     Have your friend get you started and you'll be OK.
